I constructed a graph from the interactive table of http://woodfortrees.org to show air temperature trend from 2002 to 2010 and this is the result.
The light green trend line is that from the Remote Sensing System (RSS) while the light blue trend line is from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), two institutions that keep track and interpret air temperature data from satellites that roam around the planet 24/7.
http://woodfortrees.org/plot/uah/from:2002/to:2011/plot/rss/from:2002/to:2011/trend/plot/uah/from:2002/to:2011/trend
Warming phase of the past century has stopped by 1998, with deep temperature plunge in 1999-2001, then resumed mild increase in 2002. That is why I started the period in this graph in 2002 to remove the "outlier" temperatures of 1998-99.
The recent big El Nino last year which lasted for about 10 months, pulled up global air temperature up to about 0.65 C anomaly or deviation from the 1979-98 average temperature.
RSS has a slightly declining trend line while UAH has a slightly increasing trend line but the difference between the two seems to be statistically insignificant, about 0.06 C in 2002, and was gone by 2010.
So there. Global warming has stopped. Global cooling is setting in, slowly but surely.
December 2010 UAH data is missing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pierre. I dont know why woodfortrees does not have Dec. 2010 UAH data yet.
