Agri Econ 43, Palay price inflation rising

Here is the latest data on palay (unmilled rice) prices from the Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA). These are nominal, not real prices so the level of inflation is high but it shows the degree of pass-on cost by the farmers to the consumers, 24% last May to 28% in June and 36% in July.





Energy inflation is quickly transmitted to agri and food inflation. Another reason why energy abundance is important, and why energy products like oil should NOT be taxed, no need for subsidy just do not tax it.
