The current Wuhan or China virus has killed .25 million people and 70,000 Americans as of yesterday, representing 0.02% of total US population, indicating this seems to be a mild virus. The Spanish flu more than a century ago remains the most virulent virus in the past and present century.
We often read that there were 50M to 100M people who died in the Spanish flu. This seems exagerrated so I searched for some scientific papers, I found one below. The three author scientists estimate there were only about 17.41M global deaths.
