The "poor getting poorer", I do not think it's happening on a large scale. Rather, it's more of: the poor getting middle class, middle class getting rich, and rich getting richer. And it's a good and desirable society.
Poor people who were once riding carabaos and bicycles now riding motorcycles and e-bikes. And will soon be riding 2nd hand cars. The poor who used to communicate via slow mail, "smoke signal", or pigeons as mail couriers, now communicating via FB messenger, viber, IG, whatsapp, etc.
The rich discard their sedans and buy SUVs or luxury vans, the 2nd hand sedans go to the poor or lower middle class.
In a rice farming barrio that I regularly visit in Pangasinan, I think 95-99% of all houses there have at least 1 motorcycle or tricycle. Some have cars, gifted by the kids, or the farmers themselves bought cheap.
Three good articles I encountered recently, enjoy.
The rich get richer and the poor get… richer.
